Car ferry from Split to Hvar (Stari Grad)

We are planning to take a car ferry from Split to Stari Grad in the middle of September.  I just realized that we can’t book the ferry ahead of time.  Thank makes me nervous, we are arriving to Split at 9am and have hotel reservations that night on Hvar.  Should we run to the dock as soon as we arrive?  Ideally we wanted to spend a fay in Split and travel to Hvar late afternoon, but is it possible we wouldn’t be able to get on the car ferry?

it’s very unlikely you will be left in split, however i would suggest you to buy your afternoon ticket as soon as you arrive in split so you can enjoy your day in split with ticket in your pocket
