We’re travelling to Lopar in July. We will try to make the ferry from Valbiska to Lopar at 16:00. https://www.croatiaferries.com/valbiska-lopar-ferry.htm

We don’t know the exact time we will arrive at the port since we are travelling 1000km that day, so we are wondering if we should buy our ticket in advance or not?

We have a few questions and we would be very happy if you could answer them for us?

First, are those ferries fully booked in advance or is there still some room when you arrive in port?

And secondly, what happens if we don’t make it in time? Traffic can be a bit unpredictable.

We will be returning from Lopar to Valbiska in August so we also wonder if it is a possibility that we can transfer the ticket in case we don’t make it on time?

Our backup plan is to drive to the Stinica ferry in case we don’t make 4:00PM https://www.croatiaferries.com/stinica-misnjak-ferry.htm

Can you please advise us on what our best option is? Thank you very much!

David, it is difficult to predict whether ferries will be fully booked on the particular day and time. You can reserve place for your car on Valbiska to Lopar ferry for specific time (see info here for line 338: https://www.croatiaferries.com/booking-croatia-ferries/)
If you don’t make it in the time, you will be offered a car place on next available ferry subject to car places availability.

Stinica to Misnjak ferry crossing is good as a back up option as you are travelling long distance and can be late on your chosen ferry.
In your situation, perhaps the best is to make a last minute decision, once you know which particular ferry crossing you will be able to make.
