We’re 5 American girls looking to fly into Dubrovnik, spend a day there, then take a ferry to Hvar.

What ferry option should we be looking at, how much does it cost, and can we buy these tickets in advance?

We’re looking at taking this ferry on July 27th, and returning from Hvar to Dubrovnik on possibly July 30th.

    Thank you!

Great, what is the starting point (Dubrovnik) and ending point (Hvar) that we want?

I'm not familiar with the options here.

    Thank you!

Ferry from Dubrovnik to Hvar – breaking the journey in Korcula?

Can anyone advise, please, when catching a ferry to Hvar from Dubrovnik if it is possible/practical to jump off and have a little look around Korcula Town before catching an ongoing ferry to Hvar?
We are staying on Hvar Island for 4 nights but quite fancied a little snoop around Korcula on our way!

    Thank you

Marco, it is difficult to say is that worth it. It also depends on which ferry company you will be traveling with as some of them stay short and others stay a bit longer in Korcula. For example, if you choose a smaller ferry, they stay shorter while larger ferries stay longer as it takes a longer time to embark and disembark the passengers.

Usually, we are talking about 15 to 20 minutes max for the arrival/departure procedure, and I am not sure if that time is long enough to have a meaningful walk around the town.

In the photo below, you can see the location of the port, the ferry in the port, and the distance to the town, so it will take you at least 5 minutes to get there, which means as soon as you get there,e you have to get back.

Your idea, Marco may be possible but not necessarily practical. First of all, you would need to tell a crew member that you will leave the ferry for a short period to make sure they wait for you if you are late or if something goes wrong while you are outside the vessel.

It may be the case that crew members will not allow your detour. Can you imagine if, lets say 20 people came to the same idea, how much time it will take to make sure everyone is back on the board in good time.

I would suggest to you if you can not stay for a day or half day in, you should remain on the board of the ferry. While there you can still see how the town looks, the landscape and the people in the port which is actually very nice. We have several videos on YouTube with footage of how it looks to watch the world pass by from the local ferries.

This is the photo that shows how that particular port looks when the ferry arrives
