We are traveling (2 adults and an 11-month-old baby) by ferry from Venice to Umag in Istria in July this year.

We will stay for 3 nights in Umag and would like to rent a car and drive to some of the nearby islands to visit.
What ferry can we use to visit some of the islands near Umag and Istria?

Jessica, there are no car ferries that serve the Umag ferry port.

The nearest car ferry port is Brestova, on the east coast of Istria, about 110 km away from Umag.

From there you can get on a car ferry to Porozina on Cres island ( https://www.croatiaferries.com/brestova-porozina-ferry.htm ) and drive across the Cres island to visit Losinj island too.

The alternative is to drive to Fazana and visit the Brijuni archipelago (islands), which are closer to Umag (76 km) but you can’t go by car to Brijuni as they are car-free islands. There is a small passenger ferry boat that takes you there from Fazana: https://www.croatiaferries.com/fazana-brijuni-ferry.htm

Drive from Umag to Brestova to get on ferry to Porozina (Cres island):

Thank you! I guess if we decide to go to Brijuni there is no point to rent a car then? Is there a bus from Umag to Fazana? Or are we better off to get a taxi?

In my opinion, traveling as 2 adults and a baby you are better off getting a taxi. It’s about 1 hour’s drive and shouldn’t cost you more than 100 euros.

I just checked with Uber, they quote 95 Euro one way.
